Check out these rodent gutter guards from Amazon. They cover the bottom of your downspout so pests can’t use it as a way in, and the install is about as easy as it gets.
Measure first
Make sure you measure the size of your gutter so you’re matching it with the guard. The linked guard is listed for a 3″ x 4″ downspout.

Install
- One-hand install. Slide the guard over the end of the downspout.
- Two pre-drilled screw holes, and they give you self-tapping screws.
- About a 1 to 2-minute install per guard
Tip: drill slow
Drill slowly and don’t push too hard, or you’ll bend the metal. Let the self-tapper make its way in.
Cleaning it out
If you ever need to unclog the guard, just pull up. That piece comes out and slides right back in.
Things to know
I filmed this during the initial install, so I can only speak to how easy it is to put on. If there are any issues later, I’ll post an update, but I don’t expect any.
Specs from the Amazon listing
These come from the Amazon listing title. I didn’t test them myself:
- 1-pack gutter downspout rodent guard
- Fits Type-A 3″ x 4″ downspouts
Bottom line
I’d recommend these, at least from an easy-install point of view.
