Check out this foam wall pad I found on Amazon. The way I park in the garage, it makes more sense for me to back in. It’s a whole lot easier, but then I have to open my door out toward the wall.
So I got this and stuck it on, and it stops the door from hitting the wall. There’s one big thing to know before you stick it, though.
Quick take
- Stops the door from hitting the wall
- You can cut it and mount it in the orientation that fits your vehicle
- Works for the tailgate too
- Really easy install
- Heads up: once it’s stuck, peeling it off will take your paint with it
What I liked
No more door dings
You can see in the video it stops the door from hitting the wall. Now I can open my door without worrying about bumping.
Cut to fit your truck
The pictures show it going on horizontally as a long strip. But with truck doors, your first point of contact could be up top or down low, depending on how the truck’s weighted. So I cut it and stuck it on vertically, because I know I’m parking within a short range. That way my front and back doors have no danger.

It works for the bed cover too
I also put it on the wall behind the truck. With this bed cover, in the garage you have to open it from underneath. So I can pop the handle, it rests against this piece, and then I can release my cover. I can lean my tailgate against it too.
Things to know before you buy
- It’s there to stay. Once you stick it, if you try to peel it off, you will take your paint with it. Be really careful on your first stick.
- Get it level. Make sure it’s level and stick it straight.
- Think about your contact points. The listing pictures show a long horizontal strip, but cut and orient it for where your doors actually hit.
What I didn’t cover
I didn’t get into how the foam holds up over years of use. So far I’ve had no issues.
Install notes
All in all, it’s a really easy install. Just make sure you have it level and stick it straight, because it’s not coming off without taking paint.
Specs from the Amazon listing
These come from the Amazon listing title. I didn’t test them myself:
- Garage wall protector for car doors, self-adhesive foam bumper guard
- 7.9 inch wide, heavy-duty anti-scratch and anti-collision wall padding
- Universal fit for garage, warehouse, and parking
- 13.2 ft
Who it’s for
Good fit if you: park close to a garage wall, back in, or have a truck tailgate or bed cover that needs a soft stop.
Maybe skip it if you: rent or might want to move it later, since it takes paint with it.
Bottom line
Overall, I’m super happy with it and I’ve had no issues. I can lean my tailgate against it and open my door without worrying about bumping, so I’d recommend it.
